Welcome to GCF!
Whether you’re new to GCF and trying to figure us out, or you’re a seasoned regular and you know the drill, we are excited to have you with us as we embark on another year of learning and growth through Bible study, prayer, fellowship, and social activities.
Bible study is the core of what we do at GCF. We have Bible study every Monday from 7:30pm – 9:30pm. We usually meet on-campus in Anabel Taylor Hall in the Auditorium on the second floor (same place as the ice cream social!), but just for Labor Day we will meet at the Chesterton House (115 The Knoll, Ithaca, NY 14850). (So, to be clear, meet at the Chesterton House this Monday, September 4, and then meet at Anabel Taylor next Monday, September 11 and every Monday after that.) At Bible study, we usually mingle, sing worship songs, break into small groups for study, gather prayer requests, and close with announcements, snacks, and more mingling. This fall we will be studying Exodus 1-20. If you are interested in leading study and/or helping with snacks, please feel free to email Dean Da Vee (email@example.com), our Bible Study Coordinator.
We also have a weekly prayer meeting every Wednesday from 5:30pm – 6:30pm in Anabel Taylor Hall, Room B27. Join us in the small room in the basement of Anabel Taylor Hall on Wednesday evenings (if it looks like a former kitchen carpeted over, you are in the right place). Each week we pray through our prayer list in addition to broader themes/people/topics we feel compelled to pray about. If you have any praises or prayer requests you’d like to share, please add them to the prayer list (link in recent listserv email from Sam) and we will pray about them.
In addition to general GCF prayer meeting, there is also an occasional Ladies’ Prayer Night. The first Ladies’ Prayer Night will be held next Thursday, September 7, and there may be food included. More details will come via the listserv next week.
As our name suggests, we are most certainly a fellowship, and with that comes lots of opportunities for social gatherings and fun adventures. This Saturday, September 2, there will be a picnic-esque activity for those that are in town. More details to come via the listserv soon! Also, next Saturday, September 9, there will be an outing to the Ithaca Farmers Market where we hang out and eat things we find at the Farmers Market. If you are new to Ithaca, the Farmers Market is a very Ithaca institution, and sure to be a treat. Come with petty cash and an empty stomach, and you’ll leave with no cash and a happy stomach.
Later in the semester, we will have our annual Fall retreat, tentatively planned for October 20-22. We don’t yet have everything planned for retreat, and if you are interested in helping to plan retreat, we would greatly appreciate your help! We usually leave on a Friday around dinner time, get to Cortland Bible Camp Friday night, and stay until Sunday lunch. If you are new and/or uncertain about committing to a weekend retreat with us, don’t worry! We plan it for later in the semester intentionally so that you have an opportunity to get to know us better before committing. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or to join the planning committee.
We hope to see you at our upcoming events!
